The Vrådal ski resort in the Telemark region of Norway’s central highlands is 200 kilometers away from Oslo, about a three-hour drive. It is 329 kilometers away from Bergen, about 6 hours’ drive. This is a ski resort in a snow-capped mountain valley.

Vrådal is a little-known ski resort. It’s not even listed on Tripadviser’s “Top 10 Ski Resorts in Southern Norway” list. I chose this place because of the recommendation from my colleagues in the company – only locals in Norway know about this “ski resort” that is unknown to tourists.

Vrådal ski resort

This is a snow area hidden in a snow-capped mountain canyon. Because it’s not famous, I thought it would be a small ski resort. Unexpectedly, there are 18 alpine ski lifts here – including 8 green trails, 5 blue trails, 3 red trails, and 2 black trails.

Note: The difficulty of green, blue, red and black paths increases in sequence. Conscience advice, be careful not to enter the underworld.

The current owners, Mr. and Mrs. Straand, are the fifth generation of the Straand Hotel. This hotel was built on the edge of the lake at the foot of Vrådal Mountain. It was originally a ruined rock hill. Since 1864, generations of Straands have continued to expand, repair and maintain the building built by their great-great-grandparents. Historically it became the most attractive social venue in Vrådal.

This 150-year-old private family hotel still retains the tradition of “British afternoon tea” brought about by the visits of wealthy British people, and provides tourists with a warm and cozy afternoon tea time.

Note: Afternoon tea is 395 yuan per person. Dinner is 495 yuan per person.

The basic style of the room is Norwegian country house style, but the soft furnishings have a touch of French cumbersome palace style. The wooden walls were painted in Azure blue, which was once popular in Norway. The classic contrasting blue and yellow colors are used in the color matching of the room. In short, there is a strange sense of balance, neither cold nor hot, calm and bright.

When staying at the hotel, in addition to skiing, there is also a sports car club: including antique cars and Porsches, a variety of models are available. This is an entertainment project jointly developed by Straand Hotel and the local government. Provide more fun options for visitors to Vrådal.

Start a sports car trip ranging from 104 kilometers to 761 kilometers on the real winding mountain roads of Norway. There are a total of 8 tracks, starting and ending at the Straand Hotel, with loops of various sizes along the mountainous areas of central and southern Norway. The longest road even goes around the small town of Stavanger where the southern “Pulpit Stone” is located.

All the way up the rugged mountains. The lake on the roadside and the snow-capped mountains in the distance are like moving ink landscape paintings. There was silence all around, except for our own vehicle, whizzing by as it sped by.

This is actually my first time driving alone into the snowy mountains of Norway. With two cute girls and a car full of ski equipment, I was very nervous before setting off. After all, the Norwegian mountain roads are not only steep, narrow, and rugged, but also have cliffs all the way up. In the past, I couldn’t help but feel scared when sitting in the passenger seat. Sitting in the driver’s seat today, I had to remind myself to take deep breaths and deep breaths all the way to stay calm.

Gina has never been interested in skiing, and she belongs to that “rare type” of fake Norwegians who can ski without skiing. In order to let her find the joy of skiing, I pretended to be casual and suggested several times that she could bring friends who like skiing with her. It just so happened that Camilla, a neighbor of the same age as her, a Norwegian-British mixed-race child, “just started to be interested” in skiing this year. When you call, you answer, when you call, you come.

Two days before departure, my son suddenly showed up with two Norwegian friends who wanted to go skiing with him. There are a total of 5 children, including Little Case, who all went skiing together.

I’m preparing salmon tonight, so that’s it!

Roast two extra-large salmon in the oven and serve them with freshly unearthed baby potatoes. Fresh potatoes are so delicious, and boiling them in water brings out the natural potato flavor best. Then stir-fry Chinese broccoli with Japanese soy sauce and oil.

Norwegian ski vacations are simple, simple and peaceful.
